EP6 – Dr. Giancarlo Mangone – Existing & Future Cities – Nature, Suburbs, Sustainability, Communities & Affordable Housing
Welcome to the BeyondX Podcast! In this week’s episode of BeyondCities our guest was Dr. Giancarlo Mangone, Principal at Wicked Solutions, and a Senior Consultant to the United Nations.
In the first half of our discussion, we unwrapped existing cities, and spoke on the advantages of a regional approach to masterplanning, the impact and importance of natural integration, the impact of foreign investments on housing markets, the importance of promoting affordable housing and the shortcomings of the modern suburban ecosystem.
In the second half of our discussion, we explored the future of cities, and how urban environments can be built with nature at their core, rather than the reverse. We also touched on children’s need for outdoor play, the benefits of inter-generational communities, the role of sustainability in city design, Self-Sustaining Cities and the Circular Economy, and building brand new cities of the future.
Dr. Giancarlo’s Bio:
Dr. Giancarlo Mangone is an award-winning urban planner with nearly twenty years of experience, and is internationally recognized for his unique interdisciplinary expertise in designing and implementing communities, strategies, and assets that maximize their socioeconomic and sustainability performance potential.
He is the Principal of Wicked Solutions, and is currently developing diverse sustainability projects for the Asia Pacific region with the United Nations. Dr. Mangone previously founded ADNOC's masterplanning department, and led the strategic planning and implementation of their built assets, including the core economic region of the UAE, in ways that drive innovative and resilient business development, win-win investments, and foster world class livability and sustainability.
